The Art of Fabric Recovering
Starting in 1983, I had the
opportunity to learn from one of those "old guys" that grew up around fabric,
learning the art from him then expanding into the newer technologies of Ceconite
and Stits. Fabric recovering has been the backbone of our business since
1984. Fabric recovering is truly an art form. The work is not
difficult, but making it look good is a challenge, and has taken much practice
and perfecting over the years.
The Process of Fabric recovering
Along with fabric recovering, we have a full range of services including wood, sheet metal, fabrication, and welding to make any necessary repairs prior to applying the fabric to the structure. We use only the approved methods of either the Poly-Fiber (Stits) or the Ceconite processes. We can also cover your aircraft with cotton, or Irish linen if you desire. The recovering process begins with the old fabric being removed. After removal of the old fabric the structure is completely cleaned, then the old glue is removed. After a detailed inspection process any needed repairs are made. We can handle any repairs from simple sheet metal repairs to welding new tubing. The installation of the new fabric is done in accordance with the procedure manual for the process that you have chosen. We recommend the Poly-Fiber process for the lightest weight and best looking finish.
Our experience in fabric recovering ranges from competition aerobatic aircraft to antiques, classics, war birds, and all types of finishing processes for durability or a "show" finish.
